Pria Ruth Williams

I am a non-tenured college professor of theatre and gender studies at the University of Mississippi teaching online classes and currently living in Little Rock, AR. I have a PhD in Theatre & Performance Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and have a background in theatre directing and sound design.

In 2021 I began a gender transition at the age of 51. This is a journey that has had a profound impact on my relationship to myself and how I experience the world. There is both considerable joy and considerable fear in walking this path in the United States and in the state of Arkansas currently. I have attempted to be as open about my transition as possible because I have a relative level of privilege that allows me to be open and out in my job and with my friends and family. I am happy to discuss my transition and what it means to be an older person doing this if it might help others.
